We are pleased to announce that ”Rubber World “, the Technical Service Magazine for the Rubber Industry, has published Dynasol Group’s research on new SEBS Developments for medical and other valuable applications. We developed this products as an  alternative to flexible PVC,  which is a highly concerning material from an environmental point of view.

Our new SEBS grades have been launched into the market to cover many of the requirements customers in the medical field need to fulfill with their materials in order to introduce their products in these segments, avoiding current limitations on recyclability and the usage of plasticizers.

MADRID, Spain., April 30th, 2020 – Dynasol Group, a major global producer of styrene-butadiene block copolymers, specialty polymers, and rubber chemical products, announces the development of high-plastics compounds based on recycled polystyrene (PS) and Calprene 700 styrene-butadiene (SBS) block copolymer. These compounds demonstrate enhanced impact strength and improved processability without any loss of Vicat softening temperature.  This technology addresses a key performance issue in the utilization of recycled PS in many applications. The diminished physical properties of the recycled PS can limit the usefulness, and ultimately the value, of compounds based on recycled PS. This Dynasol technology represents an opportunity to improve the performance of compounds based on recycled PS and expand the range of applications where this material can be utilized.

One of the main goals of Dynasol Group is to achieve sustainability and to support the development of a circular economy in the global polymer industry. Dynasol Group has published a Sustainability plan where the recycling of different plastics is critical objective.

There is a major global environmental concern about plastic waste especially derived from single use plastic products. There is a widespread use of PS in single use applications such as packaging. There is a big increase in the supply of PS recovered from post-consumer single use applications due to mandatory recycling programs. The lack of robust end use markets for recycled PS results in a major quantity of recycled PS to be used for energy recovery, which is a low value use, that adds to the CO2 footprint for these plastics.

The critical element to increase the demand of recycled PS is a method to upgrade the quality of the recycled plastic and thus expand the applications where this material can be considered.

The Dynasol SBS product Calprene 700 achieves a significant improvement in the quality and performance of the recycled polystyrene materials. The addition of only 3% of Calprene 700 to a PS compound achieves a significant upgrading of the impact resistance at room and low temperatures without diminishment of other features such as processability, Vicat softening point or the flexural modulus.  The use of Calprene 700 SBS is an excellent opportunity for PS recyclers to create better products with an easy economical process.  For an additional technical or sales information please contact Dynasol Group at marketing.dynasol@dynasol.com
